Kirk Douglas, the legendary actor, died at the age of 103. “It is with deep sorrow that my brothers and I declare that Kirk Douglas leaves us today at the age of 103,” Michael wrote on Instagram. “He was an icon in the nation, an actor from the golden age of cinema who lived well in his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in,” he continued.

The director, who was best known for directing Boyz n the Hood in 1991, was the first African American and the youngest person ever nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director at the age of 24. 2 Swift 2 Furious, Shaft, Higher Learning, Poetic Justice, and Rosewood, a 1997 drama, were all directed by Singleton. Singleton died in April 2019, just days before the stroke, after his life support was turned off.
